Has It Really Been Over 18 Months?

I started this blog back in early 2018, as I was just beginning my coaching business. I remember it clearly…I was so excited to connect with others who were interested in living a whole and joyful life. So how in the world did over 18 months pass me by without one single blog being written?

Well let’s see…2018 was a pretty busy year.  I got married to Omari, we moved to Central Texas and I got pregnant. Phew! I became a BIRTHFIT Leader and Coach and quickly began developing a plan to incorporate all that I learned into my business.

Then 2019 happened…I gave birth to Sophia in January and a few months later started working with prenatal and postpartum women in the areas of fitness, nutrition, mindset and connection (the four pillars of BIRTHFIT). A few months after that, while attending the annual BIRTHFIT Summit, I had an experience that changed my path quite a bit. Mary Beth LaRue and Jacki Carr, from Rock Your Bliss, gave an amazing talk combined with a yoga class that tied everything they spoke about together. For me personally, it was one of the most powerful and emotion filled talks I had ever experienced. I’m sure a lot of it had to do with where I was in my life in that exact moment but it also had a lot to do with the fact that I was open. Open to what you may wonder? Open to any and everything…new experiences…exploring why I was struggling so much during a time that was supposed to be so happy…open to turning inward and truly considering what I needed…the list goes on. So much of what those beautiful ladies spoke about were things that I work on with my life coaching clients, but more specifically values and living in alignment with them. The difference was that I wasn’t coaching someone else through the exercises…someone was coaching me through them. The words were so powerful. As if they were being spoken directly to me. And then to finish it all with a soulful yoga practice that tied it all together. A practice that I didn’t even do much of because I was breastfeeding my then 5-month-old baby during most of it. I was now not only open to, but convinced, that the natural next step in my lifelong learning journey was to become a yoga teacher. And as crazy as it may seem, I immediately started my research and found an amazing program that was starting a few months later. Phew once again! So, amidst everything else going on (new baby, family at home, husband working hard to finish his degree during the wee hours of the night, clients/mommas to see, coaching CrossFit, etc.) I made it happen with the unwavering support of my family.

It seems as though 2019 was more of a blur filled with changes than 2018 was. Then along comes 2020…oh boy! Definitely didn’t see this one coming. You all know that 2020 has been one for the record books already. Amidst all the things that every other person has been working through, (hello COVID-19), I continued to see coaching clients here and there, did a few speaking engagements, coached at my CrossFit gym, started teaching yoga and seeing some virtual fitness clients, taking care of my family, monitoring my son through his online learning, and on and on…but made the decision that this was the year that I was going to get back on track with what I had planned for my life coaching business. I met with MY coach (yes, coaches have coaches – hey Maira!) pretty early in the year (pre-COVID) and did some strategizing, rebranding and refocusing. And although I was fairly certain that I was ready to get back at it, there was one important thing that I completely overlooked. My time! In order to really get back on track something was going to have to give. So, I did a substantial amount of thinking, meditating, praying and waiting…until I was finally able to admit to myself that I can’t do every single thing that I love and am passionate about. In order to do one or two things really well, I had to take other things off my plate. So that’s what I did. And although it wasn’t easy, I know it was the right decision for me.

Soooooo, here I am. I’m back. I really never left. But I also really never fully showed up.  Not like I wanted to. So, I hope you’re ready. Because you’re going to be seeing a lot more of me in the coming weeks and months! That being said, let me reintroduce myself – I’m Jennifer Ballou.
